Football fans eager for AFC Asian Cup in Australia


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Football enthusiast around the globe, but especially in Asia, are looking forward to watching the 16th edition of the Asian Cup to be organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in the five Australian cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Newcastle between January 9 and 31.

The 32 games of the tournament, pitting the national teams of 16 qualified countries against each other, are expected to be watched by 800 million TV viewers from 120 countries.

Havana Brown, an Australian pop star, accompanied by the Sheppard indie band, will perform at the opening ceremony, which will feature also a parade by 200 professional players for 11 minutes.

The opening match will pit the Kuwaiti team against the hosts in Melbourne.

Nine Arab countries are taking part in the competitions; Saudi Arabia (champion in 1984, 1988 and 1996), Kuwait (champion-1980), Iraq champion-2007 ) the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Iraq and Palestine.
