EU condemns terror attacks in Yemen, Turkey


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The EU condemned Wednesday explosion outside the Police Academy in Sanaa as a " terrorist attacks aimed at destabilising Yemen's transition." "Our thoughts and sympathy go to the dozens of victims of today's blast and to their families, as well as to those of the attacks that hit Dhammar on January 3 and Ibb on December 31," said Catherine Ray, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini in a statement.

She stressed that restoring security and completing the transition process are paramount to achieving the objectives of stability and prosperity set out by the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative in 2011.

"All political actors should play a constructive role by promoting their policies and addressing their grievances through the peaceful channels of dialogue at a moment when progress is within reach on the constitutional and political tracks," said the statement.

It added that the EU will increase its assistance for the reform of the police and the Ministry of Interior, as well as its support for the constitutional process, noting that the 28-member bloc stands by the Yemeni people in these challenging times.

In a separate statement, Ray also condemned the "appalling act of terrorism yesterday in Istanbul, which led to the death of a policeman." The EU expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

The EU will continue its regular counter-terrorism dialogue meetings with Turkey as part of "our joint efforts to fight terrorism in all its forms," it added.
