(MENAFN) According to AirlineRatings.com, UAE-based Etihad and Emirates are among the top ten safest airlines in the world for 2015, after being chosen through a wide survey, Gulf News reported.
Topping the list is Australia's national airline Qantas, which has a fatality-free record, while the other carriers in alphabetical order are Air New Zealand, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines.
The website said it chose Qantas as the top of the list because it stood out for having achieved extraordinary record of firsts in safety and operations over its 94 years in the industry, with the airline now being considered the "most experienced" carrier in the world.
AirlineRatings.com also named the top ten safest budget airlines, which are in alphabetical order Aer Lingus, Alaska Airlines, Icelandair, Jetblue, Jetstar, Kulula.com, Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook, TUI Fly and Westjet.
"However, the world's airlines carried a record 3.3 billion passengers on 27 million flights. Flashback 50 years and there were a staggering 87 crashes killing 1,597 when airlines carried only 141 million passengers - 5 per cent of today's number," the report said.
