Qatar- The Group ranks top in brokerage business


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Group Securities ranked top in brokerage businesses in 2014, snatching a 31.26 percent of the total value of shares traded on Qatar Exchange (QE). Through a total of nearly two million transactions, the combined value of total shares traded by the brokerage company hit QR128bn year-to-date (YTD) in December.

QNB Financial Services, the brokerage arm of QNB Group, garnered 16.54 percent share of the total trading activity on QE, with a trading value of QR67.91bn.

In December 2014, The Group's market share stood a high 35.05 percent, up from 24.46 percent recorded a year ago. The Group's total traded value jumped to QR12.23bn in December 2014 from QR4.54bn during the same month in the previous year.

In October 2014, the market regulator Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA) announced financial services carrying out margin trading on behalf of clients would be issued licences by it. It had also laid down a set of guidelines for those wishing to indulge in margin trading on the bourse. Margin trading essentially allows those investing in the stock market to borrow funds in order to purchase shares.

Dlala Brokerage acquired 10.57 percent of trading value (QR43.40bn) YTD in December 2014, compared to 12.25 percent (QR19.69bn) same period in December 2013. It's share in December 2014 accounted for 9.54 percent (QR3.32bn) compared to 16.70 (QR3.10bn) a year ago.

CBQ Investment Services' market share stood 7.22 percent (QR29.65 percent) YTD in December against 7.54 percent (QR12.12bn) during the corresponding period in 2013. Qatar Securities' share was 9.29 percent (QR38.15bn) against 10.26 percent (QR16.49bn) YTD December 2013.

The Gulf Investment Group grabbed 8.6 percent share of the trading value (QR35.39bn) YTD in December against 9.38 percent (QR15.08bn) during the corresponding period in 2013. Islamic Securities' share stood at 4.15 percent (QR17.02bn) during the period. The brokerage firm's December 2014 share accounted for 5.66 percent of the total trading activity on QE.

International Securities' share in the brokerage market was 7.38 percent (QR30.28bn) YTD in December 2014, up from 6.81 percent (QR10.94bn) during the same period in 2013. Dlala-Islamic Brokerage clutched 3.20 percent of the trading value (QR13.14bn) against 3.02 percent (QR4.85bn) during the corresponding period in 2013.

The market share of Al-Ahli Brokerage rose to 1.17 percent (QR4.79bn) YTD in December 2014,from 0.98 percent (QR1.56bn) during the same period in the previous year. Al Rayan Financial Brokers' market share stood at 0.59 percent (QR2.42bn), up from 0.31 percent ( QR497m) YTD in December 2013.
