Qatar- Ooredoo marathon tomorrow


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Ooredoo yesterday announced that 3,250 participants have registered for Ooredoo Marathon 2015 - more than double the number last year.

The marathon tomorrow begins at 6.40am from Katara and take full marathon runners along the Corniche to Museum of Islamic Art Park in Doha and back again twice, in a two-lap course.

It will see participation of some of the world's top professional marathon runners for the first time.

The professionals, including Ethiopia's Ruit Aga Sora and Kenya's George Kipruto Sirma, will run alongside competitors as they train for the marathon season and aim to win part of a prize purse worth QR1,000,000.

"We are excited to be hosting the best and largest Ooredoo Marathon to date, with a fully revamped route and exciting activities for spectators and supporters. There are races for runners of all levels of ability, so we hope that everyone gets the most out of this event," said Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari, Director, Community and Public Relations, Ooredoo.

"I would like to thank all our sponsors, who have made contribution to ensure that the event reaches out to the whole community," she added.

To ensure the safety of all runners and spectators, the Corniche as well as several areas of downtown Doha will be closed from 6.30am to noon.

The marathon is sponsored by Qatar Airways, HMC, Kulluna, Sports Corner, Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), Katara and Baraem TV.

Ooredoo has begun setting up water stalls and venues for visitors and competitors for the fun-filled day.

Spectators are requested to stand by the Corniche walkway at Museum of Islamic Art or at checkpoints lining the Corniche and Katara.
