UAE- Bag snatchers jail term reduced


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The defendant contested the verdict at the appeals court which reduced the jail term to one year but ordered deportation after serving his jail term.

Dubai: A man who attacked a Filipina and snatched her bag had his three years jail term reduced to one year by the Dubai appeals court on Wednesday. The case dates to July last year when the victim reported to the police that she had flagged a car and asked the driver to give her a lift as he was going the same way as she wanted to.



Minutes later she was surprised when he suddenly stopped by the roadside and snatched her bag with Dh1400 in it. In her complaint the woman said he also snatched her iPhone and slapped her face when she clutched her bag before he pushed her out of his car and drove away.



The police arrested the suspect a Pakistani aged 25. He was referred to the Public Prosecution which charged him with forcible robbery and sent him to the criminal court for prosecution. The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced him to three years in prison to be followed by deportation.
