Judeh, OIC chief discuss Jerusalem, ties

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, met Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Madani, and said Jordan will continue to exert efforts to defend Christian and Islamic holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.

These efforts, he said, are within the framework of the Hashemite custodianship of holy shrines in Jerusalem.

Madani commended His Majesty King Abdullah II's effort in safeguarding the Jerusalem holy sites, as mandated by the historical Hashemite custodianship.

Madani, who is just back from a visit to Jerusalem's Haram al Sharif compound, Islam's third holiest shrine housing the Al Aqsa and Dome of the Rock mosques, said he appreciated facilities provided by Jordan for the visit, which he described as ''successful.''

During the meeting, Judeh and Madani discussed the current level of cooperation between Jordan and the 57-member OIC.
