Libyan warplane raids military base

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A plane belonging to the Libyan Air Force attacked Al-Jufra Air Base in central Libya, about 650 km. southeast Tripoli, on Tuesday evening.

The targeted site is controlled by the Islamist Fajr Libya (dawn of Libya) militia which is opposed to the government in Tobruq, east Libya, a military official told KUNA by phone.

The airstrike, meant to destroy the runway of the airbase and prevent the military from attacking the military, hit the target accurately, the officer said.

Al-Jufra is the country's second largest air base after Tamenhit airbase; it used to have a civilian airport before the civil war.
