UN chief to promote sustainable development in India

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will travel to India at the weekend to attend an investors' summit in Gujarat and to meet with leaders in Delhi.

Ban will be making his fourth trip to India as UN chief, his spokesman said Tuesday.

The UN chief will deliver an address at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit on Sunday that will focus on "the need to promote inclusive and sustainable development in India and globally," said Stephane Dujarric.

Ban will visit a solar power plant and hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he pushes for a global deal on reducing greenhouse gas emissions to be reached in Paris later this year.

Energy-starved India is seen as one of the major hurdles to a deal.
