Turkey's inflation hits 8.17 percent in 2014

(MENAFN) According to Turkey's statistics office, the country's annual inflation surged to 8.17 percent last year, slightly higher than 2013 and higher than the central bank's target, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The inflation dropped by 0.44 percent in December from November. The central bank had forecasted annual inflation of 8.9 percent in 2014, while the government forecasted a 9.4 percent.

"The sharp fall in Turkish inflation last month was an encouraging development, but core inflation remained extremely high," said the London-based Capital Economics consultancy.
