(MENAFN) According to a car safety agency, the number of vehicle recalls in South Korea contracted by 27.2 percent in 2014 on the back of a decline for local carmakers, Yonhap News reported.

A total of 755,501 units were recalled for safety reasons last year, dropping from 1.04 million units recalled in 2013, data by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority showed.

In 2014, local car manufacturers recalled a total of 635,273 units, down by 35.3 percent from a year ago, while the number of models affected by the recalls also declined by one-fourth year-on-year.

On the other hand, recalls for overseas models more than doubled during the same period, with a total of 120,228 units of registered imported cars recalled for repairs, up from 55,853 vehicles in 2013.
