QRC distributes winter aid to Palestinian refugees

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has initiated its Warm Winter Campaign in Lebanon for the year 2014-2015. The project involves distributing winter assistance to the Palestinian refugees in the poorest Lebanese districts.
The mission is carried out in co-operation with the Irshad and Islah Islamic Beneficent Association and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
With QR730,000 funding from QRC, the assistance included 600 pieces of winter clothes, 500 electric heaters, 1,010 blankets, 1,500 coats for kindergarten students at Palestinian refugee camps, 10,000 coats for UNRWA schoolchildren, a mattress and pillow each for 500 elderly, and heating oil at the rate of 1,00l per family.
The distribution has been going on for two weeks in all target regions. Blankets, electric heaters, gifts for the elderly, heating oil coupons, and winter clothing have been delivered to the recipients. By mid-January, the coats will be distributed to the students of UNRWA schools and kindergartens of Palestinian refugee camps.
A total of 16,610 Palestinians will be served in Beirut, Sidon, Tyre, Tripoli, and Beqaa, as well as 54 UNRWA schools and kindergartens throughout the above governorates.
Implementation was co-ordinated with the Irshad and Islah Association, with a view to alleviating the distress of poor families, patients, and the elderly by providing them with basic needs in a manner that preserves their dignity, particularly in the cold winter of the target regions.
The project's team was happily welcomed by the beneficiary families, who had endured months of difficulty and severe conditions. They were overjoyed to receive the assistance.
These distributions are part of QRC's Warm Winter campaign for 2014-2015, which targets QR5mn of winter assistance including blankets, mattresses, pillows, heaters, heating oil, and school jackets for the poorest families in Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Kashmir, as well as the refugee camps in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and northern Iraq.
