Fresh row rocks National Games in Kerala


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Distribution of food to over 70000 persons during the 15-day meet landed in trouble after the organising committee decided to award the contract to a Kashmir-based firm.

Trivandrum — After the mass run the catering for the 35th National Games to be held in Kerala from January 31 to February 14 has plunged into controversy.



Distribution of food to over 70000 persons during the 15-day meet landed in trouble with the catering firms association in Kerala challenging the decision of the games organising committee to award the contract to Kashmir-based firm.



Controversy surrounded ‘Run Kerala Run’ the mass run proposed to promote the games after the opposition alleged corruption in the award of contract to run the campaign to an event management firm functioning under the state’s leading Malayalam daily. The Kerala catering firms’ body had alleged a conspiracy behind the decision to award the catering contract to Gazal Caterers which had supplied food during the last National Games too. They alleged that several last minute changes were made in the tender conditions in order to exclude the state firms.



Games Assistant Organising Committee secretary R Anil Kumar denied any fouls play in the selection.



With barely 26 days left for the Games allegations against the conduct of the games have already taken away its sheen and glamour.



The games suffered a further setback with two ruling front legislators resigning from the games committees citing various irregularities.
