China's Xiaomi sales surge 135 percent in 2014

(MENAFN) Chinese tech firm Xiaomi technology Ltd. Co. pre-tax sales came to USD12 billion in 2014, surging 135 percent from 2013, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The figures pushed that privately-held firm to become the world's No. 3 smartphone maker and challenging Apple and Samsung Electronics as well as domestic rivals such as Huawei.

Last week, Xiaomi raised USD1.1 billion in a round of funding that valued the firm at USD45 billion, from investors including All-Stars Investment, DST Global and Hopu investment Management.

Xiaomi sold a total of just over 61 million phones devices last year, up 227 percent compared to a year earlier, the firm's chief executive said in a post on his Sina Weibo microblog account.
