Netanyahu threatens to drag Palestinian officials to ICC

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday threatened Palestinian officials to be put on trial before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

At the start of the weekly cabinet meeting today, Netanyahu said they would not let Israeli soldiers and officers be dragged to the ICC in The Hague, according to Radio Israel.

The Palestinians have chosen to take a path of confrontation with Israel, and "we will not sit idly by" he said.

The remarks come two days after Palestinians filed an application to join the ICC.

He noted that the Palestinian leadership should be tried before the ICC for signing a reconciliation agreement with Hamas movement last year, which led to the establishment of a national consensus government.

"Those who should face justice are the heads of the Palestinian Authority who signed a covenant with the war criminals of Hamas," Netanyahu said.

Israeli sources said that non-governmental organizations and sympathizers will file lawsuits against the Palestinian officials.
