Opposition fighters kill 12 soldiers N. Syria


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least 12 Syrian soldiers were killed on Sunday when their camp came under fire from Al-Jabha Al-Shamiya (the Levant front) in the northern city of Aleppo.

The Front used the home-made heavy guns in the attack against the military site near Al-Saba' Bohirat square in the city, Shaam News Network (SNN) reported.

The Front, a coalition of armed groups that operate in the governorate of Aleppo, was formed last month in a bid to unify the ranks of the opposition forces in the battle against the regime of Bashar Al-Assad.

In the capital city of Damascus heavy fighting is reported between the opposition fighters and the regular troops on all fronts of Jobar district; medium and heavy guns as well as surface-to-surface missiles have been used in the fighting since this morning, according to SNN.

The opposition groups said they destroyed three tanks and a building used by the regular troops as military barracks.

A number of soldiers were killed in the clashes.

Meanwhile, the state-run SANA news agency reported that nine civilians were injured when mortar rounds, fired by militants, fell on King Faisal St. in Al-Sadat district, and Al-Qasa' and Al-Abbasiyn neighborhoods.

The casualties fell as a result of two mortar rounds that fell on Adib Ishaq St. in Al-Qusa' neighborhood; they were taken to the nearby French Hospital and the Red Crescent Hospital, according to SANA.

In a related development, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that a dissident army colonel was assassinated when a car bombing in Atema area.

The Syrian Air Force continued attacking several towns in Aleppo and the northwestern governorate of Idlib with barrel bombs; the attacks killed at least two civilians and wounded dozens of others.
