Indonesia expands search for AirAsia plane to East Java Sea


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) announced Monday focusing search for the crashed AirAsia plane's to east Java Sea, hoping it would find the black box in the new area.

In a press conference held in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, Head of Basarnas Vice-Marshal F Henry Bambang Soelistyo said it is believed that the black box would not be away from the large plane parts recently detected by the agency floating at the sea.

He stated that the no signals were detected from the plane's black box so far, noting that the searching teams are facing many challenges due to the intensity of the mud in seabed.

He disclosed that five more ships equipped with pinger locator to find the black box will be deployed Monday to join hunting teams.

By Sunday evening, 34 bodies of AirAsia crash victims have been evacuated and all of them have been flown to Surabaya, East Java.

The AirAsia flight QZ8501 with 162 people on board disappeared on December 28 en route from Surabaya to Singapore.

The search is being coordinated by Basarnas by involving a number of concerned Indonesian institutions such as the military, police and the transportation ministry, as well as foreign countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, the US, Japan, China, South Korea, India, and Russia.
