17 deaths in Irbid accidents last week

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Seventeen people died and 767 were injured in 781 incidents recorded in the northern Irbid Governorate over the past week, according to the Civil Defence Department (CDD) which urged the public to take extra precautions, particularly during the severe winter days.

The Irbid CDD Director, Brig. Gen. Munib Awawdeh, said the emergency cases ranged from putting out fires, rescue and administering first aid, adding that many cases of asphyxiation occurred due to misuse of heating appliances.

He said most of those affected had suffered medium injuries and were treated in hospitals.

Awawdeh urged the public to use "healthy heating means" while ensuring proper ventilation of homes before going to bed and to take "utmost safety precautions during the severe weather."

He also called upon the public to stay indoors and keep away from low-lying areas as meteorologists forecast that a severe storm will hit the Kingdom this week.
