(MENAFN- QNA) North Korea on Sunday rebuked the United States for slapping fresh sanctions on Pyongyang for its alleged hacking of Sony Pictures, saying that the U.S. move reflects its long-running hostility toward the North.
The U.S. on Friday announced retaliatory sanctions on North Korea in response to the communist nation's alleged cyber attack on Sony after it produced a comedy film about a plot to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The North has denied involvement in the hacking.
"The persistent and unilateral action taken by the White House to slap sanctions against the DPRK patently proves that it is still not away from inveterate repugnancy and hostility toward the DPRK," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in an English-language report, quoting an unnamed spokesman of North Korea's foreign ministry.
The DPRK is the acronym of the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The spokesman said the sanctions will not weaken his country as they will prove counter-productive and will further strengthen the North's pursuit of "songun" policy, the military-first doctrine pursued by Kim's late father Kim Jong-il.
"The policy persistently pursued by the U.S. to stifle the DPRK, groundlessly stirring up bad blood towards it, would only harden its will and resolution to defend the sovereignty of the country, the dignity of the nation and the sovereignty by dint of the Songun politics," the KCNA reported.
