UAE- Fog: Etihad urges passengers to rebook tickets


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Etihad urges passengers who can travel after January 6 to rebook their tickets waives normal cancellation and refund fees during the period.

Abu Dhabi — A thick fog cover over the Capital early on Saturday morning affected flight operations at the Abu Dhabi Airport. Several flights were delayed or diverted.



Etihad Airways said the “severe fog caused the closure of the airport which resulted in flight diversions as well as a significant number of flights to be delayed which are now being rescheduled.”



A statement from the Abu Dhabi Airport said airport operations were suspended for an hour between 2.30am and 3.30am because of visibility lower than 100 metres as per the standards and guidelines of civil aviation. Overall visibility was below 200 metres at 1am” the statement said.

Etihad Airways said the conditions caused unprecedented congestion at the Abu Dhabi Airport and will lead to knock-on delays throughout the network for the next 24 hours.



This could mean deferral of some flights into Abu Dhabi on Sunday morning.



The airline also urged passengers who can postpone their travel to from or through Abu Dhabi up to and including January 6 to rebook flights through its global contact centres (etihad.com/contacts).



The airline is waiving normal cancellation and refund fees during this period. Passengers are advised to contact the Etihad Airways Contact Centre on +971 (0) 2599 0000 or visit the Etihad Airways website at www.etihad.com/flightstatus for more information.



Cloudy weather



Meanwhile the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology has forecast fair to partly cloudy weather at times with a chance of mist or fog. Light to moderate winds are also expected. “Sea is slight to moderate over the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.
