Qatar- Five primary health centres to work 24 hours

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Patients would be able to receive services around the clock at some primary healthcare centres in future, says a senior official.

Five centres in and outside Doha, including at places like Al Gharafa and Al Shahania, would start operating 24 hours, according to Dr Mariam Ali Abdulmalik, Managing Director, Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC).

Although health centres globally function within a limited time, Dr Abdulmalik said some centres providing urgent care services in Qatar will operate throughout the day.

"These centres (providing urgent care) will work round the clock, we have identified five of them," she told a press conference.

Changes in working time and some facilities at the centres are being made based on surveys involving visitors.

Further working time at some centres has been increased.

The centre in Mesaimeer is also open during weekend and working hours at centres in Al Karaana and Al Ghwaireya has been extended to meet demand.

To meet the needs of increasing population, 19 health centres will open by 2019.

In the first phase, six under construction in Al Karana, Al Ghwaireya, Al Roda, Rawdat Al Khail, Al Ebb (wellness health centre) and Umm Salal are set to open in 2015.

PHCC is in the first stage of finding contractors to build four centres in Al Waab, Al Jamaa, Al Wajbah and Muaither.

In a third phase, five health centres with counselling centres are scheduled to be built and open in south Al Wakra, Al Mashaf, Ain Khalid, Al Khor, and Al Shamal for health and wellness.

Another four health centres are at the planning stage and will be built in Al Sadd (health centre, urgent care, wellness centre) Madinat Khalifa, (health centre, urgent care, wellness centre) Al Hilal (health centre, urgent care) and (health centre, urgent care).

Services in the new health centres will include advisory clinics, control rooms, specialised clinics, dental clinics, child and maternal health clinics, communicable diseases clinics, primary emergency care departments, radiology services (diagnostic) (X-rays, Panorama, ultrasound), patient health education, departments for pre-marital tests, isolation rooms and pharmacies.
