Ireland's new car sales up 30 percent in 2014

(MENAFN) According to newly released figures, new car sales in Ireland surged 30 percent in 2014 over the same period of 2013, Xinhua reported.

The figures by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) showed over 96,000 cars were sold in 2014, when compared to over 74,000 in the previous year.

About 22,900 cars were sold in January, and July was the next best month for sales last year with 18,271 cars sold, making up 19.4 percent of all 2014 sales.

Volkswagen was the most popular brand of car, with its models representing more than 12 percent of all sales, making up about 4.7 percent of all sales in the country.

"The feedback received from our members for January has been very positive, indicating continued growth in sales in January and the rest of 2015," SIMI Director General said.
