(MENAFNEditorial)

To celebrate the launch of his upcoming short film The Art Of Motivating Today’s Teen Marcus “M-Positive” is offering a free download of his latest motivational rap song. In2town decided to talk to the motivational rapper and find out more about his music and how music can help the youth of today.

The below interview has been provided free of charge by In2town Lifestyle Magazine for blogs and magazines to republish.

Marcus Parker you are offering a free song to teachers and parents can you explain the reason behind this?  I started my career speaking at schools so I understand the challenges that teachers and parents are facing when try to connect with today’s teen. So Its my way of giving them a tool.

What is your view on bullying in schools? I am totally against it and I try to show the power of showing love instead of hate towards others in my music.

Do you feel the government are doing enough to fight bullying within schools? I think that the government also has challenges when addressing today’s youth because the teens change so fast that it is hard to keep up with them.

Do you believe music can make an important impact to fight bullying? Absolutely I am also happy that movies like Selma that show MLK’s struggle but also show that even in the most extreme circumstances that non-violence can still get your point across. I also know that bullying usually results on insecurity and low-self esteem by the bully. They then take it out on some innocent person as a way of passing the pain.  So we need to address these issues so healing can begin.

As an artist do you believe music can get across important messages to children? Absolutely No question about it.  Music can change our mood and our attitude. So listening to motivational rap can help to push you in the right direction.

You are just about to release a new short film titled The Art Of Motivating Today’s Teen Marcus “M-Positive” can you tell me more about this?  The film is 39 minutes so it can be watched in a class period. It is a compilation of motivational music which is entertaining and motivating. It will provide information that I have used to help close the communication gap between teens and their parents and teachers.

Why do you feel rap music can connect with the youth? Rap music is their method of communication. I started in 2004 when my book “The Product” was released. I had a hard time trying to get the students to read it. But when I put the same message in a rap song they could relate to it.

Why did you decide to become an artist? I think I was born this way; it just took me a while to connect with my creative side. (smile)

How do you feel about music reality shows such as American Idol and the X Factor? I think they are great because they give people hope that their talent could take them to the next level.

What advice would you give a parent who is struggling to connect with their child?  I get asked this a lot. As a matter of fact I completed a course to become a certified Life coach last year so that I could answer this very question better.

My advice to any parent struggling to connect with their child is to start with the truth! They must start by finding that level of communication with their child. This is usually very hard because the parents and the teens live in two different worlds. Teens go to school; music fashion and their environment influence them. Parents are influenced by work bosses finances and other stresses that exist. So because of this parents tend to address their teens from a perspective that is aligned with their influences and not the teen’s influences.  That is usually where the communication gap begins to grow.  So motivational rap is something that both generations can appreciate because it was written as a book but with a young hip-hop flavor that both generations can appreciate.

I get lots of positive feedback about this being the first rap that parents enjoy listening to in the car with their teens but once a young man told me that one of my songs was him and his grandmother’s favourite. I was so humbled by that it really felt good.

The film is due to be released through Amazon Instant Video in 2015 and is packed full of invaluable information and resources—as well as several tracks of his motivational rap. To celebrate the completion of his fist short film Parker is offering a free .mp3 download of his track "I Dream About A World Where The Youth Are Motivated" for teachers and parents to share with their students. Mr. Parker's years of work have earned him a front page spot on Google when anyone searches "Positive Rap" and hopes to expand the brand by helping other artists promote music with a positive message.
