Clashes Break out between Army Contingent and Tribesmen in East Yemen


(MENAFN- QNA) Violent clashes broke out between army troops and tribesmen in Eastern Yemen governorate of Marib.

Security sources in the governorate said tribesmen last night intercepted a military contingent of reservists in the area of Al-Saheel while heading to the capital Sana'a from the governorate of Shabwa, adding that an unidentified number of people were killed and injured in the ensuing clashes that broke out between the two sides.

The sources said the tribesmen said they intercepted the contingent for fears that they would fall in the hands of the Houthi militants who are preparing to break into the governorate of Marib.

They added that military and tribal leaders in the governorate are now trying to contain the repercussions of the incident and to persuade the tribesmen to end the siege they were clamping on the contingent and allow them to leave the area.

For about two months tension in running high in the Yemeni governorate of Marib on the backlash of threats by Houthi militants to break into the governorate and control it.
