Monitoring Group: Syria's Deaths Topped 76,000 in 2014


(MENAFN- QNA) The death toll in Syria's civil war reached 76,000 people last year, its highest since the conflict began, a monitoring group said .

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the deaths of 33,278 civilians during the course of 2014. This figure includes 3,501 children and 15,488 people described by the group as "moderate rebels".

The watchdog added that more than 25,160 government troops and allied militiamen were among those killed, along with nearly 17,000 jihadists and 259 regime dissidents.

A total of 345 bodies remained unidentified.

The death toll for 2013 was nearly 73,000, according to Observatory estimates.

The Britain-based watchdog compiles reports from a network of activists inside Syria.
