UPs hoardings pulled down in Ahmedabad

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The 60 regular and 50 huge hoardings have been booked till January 15 for display in posh localities to attract the attention of hundreds of high-profile Indian and foreign delegates.

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has stymied Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s bid to launch a publicity blitzkrieg ahead of two key international events being held next week in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled state.

Obviously under pressure from the Anandi Patel administration officials of the BJP-controlled Ahmedabad municipal corporation on Thursday started pulling down some of the 110-odd hoardings promoting UP as a preferred investment destination.

The 60 regular and 50 huge hoardings have been booked till January 15 for display in posh localities to attract the attention of hundreds of high-profile Indian and foreign delegates as well as visiting non-resident Indians attending the Paravasi Bharatiya Divas (January 7 to 9) and the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit (January 1 to 13).

Gujarat SP secretary Kiran Kansara told Khaleej Times the hoardings promoting UP as the state for infrastructural investment education and other development parameters with a prominent picture of Akhilesh were suddenly being removed citing ‘technical reasons’.

“An agency had been given the contract till January 15 but removal of the publicity material is a breach of contract. This is being done under pressure from the BJP government” he said adding that the UP CM would be attending the events.

Prime Minister Narendara Modi will inaugurate the two events which will also be graced by 30 well-known political dignitaries including US Secretary of State John Kerry UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and four country heads (Denmark Netherlands Singapore and Bhutan) as well as top-drawer managers including 60 global CEOs of at least 250 Fortune 500 companies.
