Yasar maintains lead after Day 4 of the Qatar Optimist Cup


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Sailors at the Qatar Optimist Cup experienced another windy day at Katara Beach during the fourth day of the championship yesterday.

Three races were completed in steady 15-17 knots wind, however, while sailors waiting for the starting line for the fourth races of the day (11th of series) winds become very strong gusting over 25 knots and race officer Alen Kustic realised that sailors are getting tired after three very competitive races and decided to call it a day.

Defending champion Rasim Yasar of Turkey has maintained his lead over the Netherlands Florina Bramervaer who is at the second spot after the 10 races. Turkey's Okyanus Arikan is at the third place, while Abdulrhman al-Nasr and Ghanim al-Sewaidi were at the fifth and the sixth positions.

The remaining two races will be sailed today morning. After completion of 12 races, five teams will vie for the Qatar Optimist Cup Team Racing Trophy. Pictures: Jayaram
