No room for corruption irregularities: minister


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY Dec 31 (KUNA): The Ministry of Interior works hand-in-hand with the nation's Anti- Corruption Authority for the purpose of rooting out corrupt practices that may be found within government ministries and agencies and elsewhere in society said a Kuwaiti official on Wednesday. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al- Khaled Al-Hamad Al- Sabah made that statement as he chaired a meeting today attended by chief of the Authority Abdul- Rahman Al-Nimash and a bevy of officials from the Ministry and the Authority said a press statement issued by the Interior Ministry. Sheikh Mohammad Al- Khalid noted that it was the expressed wish of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to fight rampant corruption in the country that was the impetus behind forming recently the Anti- Corruption Authority which the Minister said was an essential tool to reach transparency and fairness in the work of the government.

'There is no room for anyone anymore to cover up acts of corruption or irregularity in government bodies as we all seek to exercise transparency for the betterment of the people and our nation' said the Minister. He urged the Authority to establish strong partnerships with these bodies in order to enhance its effectiveness. Sheikh Mohammad Al- Khalid Al-Sabah discussed the efforts exerted by the Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority during the last phase and elaborated his observations about them to the attendees of the meeting. Mechanism Meanwhile Chief of Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority Abdulrahman Al- Nimash discussed about the work mechanism of the committee explaining that they are focused on three aspects-national strategy for fighting corruption monitoring the management of the money with the state officials and curbing corruption through follow-ups.

He further explained about the decree related to establishment of the authority elaborating its aims and main specializations related to implementing national strategies for transparency planning and executing programs for fighting corruption following up their execution with the concerned authorities and receiving reports and complaints regarding corruption. Al-Nimash stressed the importance of the role played by Ministry of Interior in assisting the authority to spread awareness and guide the members of the Kuwaiti society reiterating that cooperation of the concerned authorities particularly Ministry of Interior is essential to fight corruption that is prevalent in the country. He affirmed that the meeting which was held is the first step in the plan for joint-coordination to achieve the objectives of the authority declaring that a comprehensive strategy for ensuring transparency and fighting corruption can be easily applied with the cooperation of all security sectors.
