UAE- Shaikh Zayed Bridge dazzles with LED lights


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The use of the new LED technology would improve the lighting quality of the bridge and showcase its features along with its wonderful architectural lines in an impressive and dazzling manner more than any time before.

Abu Dhabi: The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has retrofitted lights on Shaikh Zayed Bridge with LED lights as part of a strategy to nurture a sustainable infrastructure environment.

According to the municipality they have replaced all traditional lights on Shaikh Zayed Bridge with innovative Light Emitting Diode (LED) system which gives the bridge a glamorous look cementing its profile as an iconic landmark and featuring world-class standards as well as super innovative and eye-catching architectural designs.



“This project has been undertaken as part of the implementation of the lighting strategy of the municipality and conforms with its drive to promote a sustainable environment for infrastructure in keeping with the vision and directives of the Department of Municipal Affairs said Engineer Eissa Mubarak Al Mazroui Acting Executive Director of Municipal Assets and Infrastructure Sector.



He further added the project is also in implementation of the standards of sustainability and rationalisation of power consumption initiated in 2012 as per Vision Abu Dhabi 2030.



“Replacing the conventional lighting of Shaikh Zayed Bridge with LED lighting reflects the municipality’s commitment to implement the lighting strategy set for roads bridges tunnels and public realms. The civic body completed the installation of new lighting fixtures on the bridge and the process of adjustments calibration and tentative operation has been undertaken” added Al Mazroui.



He said the use of the new LED technology would improve the lighting quality of the bridge and showcase its features along with its wonderful architectural lines in an impressive and dazzling manner more than any time before.



Al Mazroui further explained: “Moreover the new lighting system which is covered by a 10-year warranty is eco-friendly as it is mercury-free and does not contain any hazardous materials and saves power consumption by more than 77 per cent compared to the old traditional lighting.”



The new strategy reduces the annual maintenance costs as the Maintenance and Operation of Internal Roads and Public Realms Lighting Network Team has conducted a study to replace the old lighting system of streets approaching the bridge by LED lighting which will be implemented in the second phase in not more than two months.
