Dubai Police release traffic plan maps for New Year


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Dubai: The Dubai Police have made all preparations and chalked out detailed safety and security plans for the New Year Eve celebrations at various venues in the emirate especially Downtown Dubai today.

The maps showing arrangements being made by the police can be downloaded from the Dubai Police’s website or through the police smart app to ease logistical hassles of navigating Downtown Dubai.



Colonel Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri head of the Event Security Committee and deputy director of the Department of Protective Security said “We are expecting around 1.5 million residents and tourists at Shaikh Mohammed Boulevard The Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa to watch the fireworks at Burj Khalifa and seven other venues.”



He explained that officials of Emaar and other entities will be available to prevent jaywalking on roads especially crossing Shaikh Zayed Road close to midnight when the fireworks begin.



He said that the police will prevent vehicles from parking on road shoulders. They have to be parked in the designated areas Al Marri warned.



Around 80 buses will take people to Burj Khalifa from various areas and back.



Also special routes have been allocated for private vehicles on Al Asda Road and the map also will show the parking areas of buses and taxis.



All roads leading to Burj Khalifa where the main celebration is being held will be closed gradually after 8pm. Only one lane in each direction will be open for police and emergency vehicles.



The police Operations Room will monitor the traffic volume on roads and the officers on the ground may start blocking roads leading to the area from 6pm.



Col Al Marri said places have been allocated for families and 16 makeshift tents have been erected to provide emergency health services.



People can also watch the videos and photos of events at other venues like the Global Village as well and check how they can enter the roads to those areas safely.



The metro services will there for 24 hours but the Burj Khalifa station will be closed at 10pm.



He added that organising committee members including representatives of the Dubai Government Media Office Dubai Media Dubai Civil Defence Ministry of Health Dubai Water and Electricity Authority Dubai Ambulance Tourism Department and Emaar will provide all facilities to visitors and will exert all efforts to reduce traffic jams and prevent people from crossing Shaikh Zayed Road on foot.
