Al Shaqab's Mister Ginoux wins Qatar Pure Arabian Derby

A brilliant turn of foot in the straight enabled Al Shaqab’s Mister Ginoux to assert his superiority over his 11 rivals in the Qatar Pure Arabian Derby which featured the races at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club yesterday. The Thomas Fourcy trained Mister Ginoux was ridden to victory by Julien Auge. Samjida and Zameer finished second and third respectively.

Mubarak Saeed Aljafai al-Naimi’s Makruma was brilliantly ridden by jockey W J Lee to win the Group III Doha Thoroughbred Oaks. Makruma raced in a mid position till entering the straight and started to improve inside the last 300 metres. The Majid Safeeen trainee Makruma then stretched away to win quite comfortably and clinch her first career win in six starts. Nadirah and Charlie’s Wish finished second and third respectively.

Umm Qarn’s Yasmeen galloped to a stylish victory in the Doha Local Thoroughbred Oaks a race for Fillies. Settling in third Yasmeen forged ahead soon on turning for home.

Jockey Gaetan Faucon waited with the Alban de Mieulle trainee until well into the straight and when he began to urge Yasmeen the Atlantic Air progeny unleashed a terrific gallop to draw away from the field. Hawra finished second ahead of Qhudoua.

Sheail bin Khalifa al-Kuwari’s Al Murabitoon (Af Albahar - Opale Du Croate) kept her unbeaten record in Doha intact while winning the Doha Local Bred Pure Arabian Derby in brilliant fashion. This was the second win in two starts for Al Murabitoon who was ridden by Harry Bentley to a two length victory over Jenjal and AJS Al Rayyan who were unable to match strides with the winner.

Mubarak Saeed Aljafai al-Naimi owned Galaxy was brilliant ridden by Alberto Sanna to victory in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate.

Majid Safedeen trained Galaxy was in a handy third position as the field straightened out for the home stretch. Once put into top gear Galaxy stretched away nicely and later warded off the challenge from Zohair Mohsen’s Bon Voyage to win by a head.

Ibrahim Saeed al-Malki’s Jumaira Tower (Gary Carter up) pipped stable mate Crafted at the post to win the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 55 to 75 which was run over a mile. Jumaira Tower clocked a smart timing of one minute 36.39 seconds.

In a thrilling contest Yousuf Bentaher trained Hi Holy staved off the challenge of stable mate Carina Palace to win the Thoroughbred Handicap a race for horses rated 60 to 80. Gerald Avranche was astride the winner.

Hamad Adel al-Muslimani’s Bronze Maquette ran on strongly inside last 200 metres to get the better of Dahaab in the Qatar Fillies Nursery Stakes a Thoroughbred race. After a stirring duel in the final 50 metres Bronze Maquette grew stronger and won by a length. Natural Charm and Ko Cache completed the frame.
