Eliasson briefs UNSC on S. Sudan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UN Security Council members held closed consultations Tuesday on the situation in Sudan, where deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson briefed members on latest developments in the troubled country.

Eliasson is also briefing the members about the government of Sudan's decision to expel UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator and the Country Director of the UN Development Program (UNDP).

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned last week the expulsion decision.

The sanctioning of UN personnel sent to Sudan to carry out their duties in accordance with the UN Charter is unacceptable, he said in a statement. He then called on the government of Sudan to reverse its decision immediately and urged it to cooperate fully with all UN entities present in Sudan.
