CMC briefed on healthcare projects across Qatar

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A Central Municipal Council session yesterday discussed projects of the Supreme Council for Health (SCH) underway across the country to boost healthcare, achieve goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and cope with the preparations to host FIFA World Cup in 2022.

The projects were revealed to the CMC yesterday in response to questions by Councillor Mohammed bin Salem Al Qamra. A report was prepared by the civic Public Service and Utilities Committee.

Mohammed Jassim Abdul Rahman, Director, SCH projects, said as part the national strategy 2011-2016, they had set up a master plan for healthcare facilities and divided it into three phases, including the current ones, those planned and proposed and the big projects.

He said the big projects include three hospitals, including one for communicable diseases which is expected to be completed in 2016, a gynaecology hospital and a rehabilitation hospital both of which are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2016.

He said they have a five-year plan which included expansion of Al Khor Hospital to 500 beds, expansion of Al Wakra Hospital and three other hospitals, especially in areas where there are many workers, so that each hospital has at least 120 beds.

He said they also plan to empower the private sector by helping it provide health services and this could be possible if all workers have health insurance and can be treated anywhere in the country.

The SCH is also completing healthcare centres next year, including a workers' health centre, and a health centre in Muaither with 45 examination rooms.

It is also expanding the Operations Department at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) with more rooms and the project is likely to be completed in 2016.

Work continues on a communicable diseases hospital in Rumaila and is likely to be finished in 2016.

Other projects to be completed in 2016 include a simulation training centre which will allow virtual operations at HMC, a Nova centre in Musaimeer to rehabilitate the addicts, a workers health centre in Abu Nakhila, two health centres and branches of the Medical Commission in Ras Lafan and Mesaeed.

Abdul Rahman said they have plans to build 13 more primary healthcare centres across the country.

Health centres include one in Umm Salal with 45 consulting rooms to be completed by the third quarter of 2015. A health centre in Al Niama with 45 consulting rooms is expected to be ready by the second quarter of next year. Other facilities to be completed next year are in Roudah, Karaana (replacing the existing health centre) Al Muntazah and Al Khuwairiya. Health centres to be completed in 2016 will be in Al Waab, near Qatar University, Maidir, Al Wajba, South Wakra, Al Mashaf and Ain Khalid.
