Six firms in race to bag MoHC's Oman Cultural Complex construction project


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Six reputed firms have shown interest in building the US$250mn Oman Cultural Complex which the Ministry of Heritage and Culture is planning as part of its strategy to promote cultural and artistic innovations in the sultanate. 

Twenty five companies had collected tender documents but only Carillion Alawi Sinohydro Corporation Galfar Engineering & Contracting Dawood Est Trading & Contracting Itinera SpA and Oman Shapoorji Construction Co submitted technical bids.

After announcing appointment of UK-based international consultancy and construction company Mace as project manager for the complex MoHC had on July 20 floated the tender for its construction. Document distribution continued till August 28 while the last date for submission was October 29.

The complex will have three major buildings of national interest including the National Library with a capacity to house 5mn books and the National Archives which will act as a fourstorey exhibition-cum-public event area and a research and administration wing.

The third will be the National Theatre which will have the capacity to accommodate over 1000 people.

Landscaping will cover a lavish Oasis Fruit Garden which will accommodate 1100 palm trees 750 fruit trees and 32500 smaller trees and shrubs.
