Daewoo Shipbuilding wins contract worth USD14.9b in 2014

(MENAFN) Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. has won contracts worth USD14.9 billion this year, surpassing the year's target on the back if robust demand for gas carriers, Yonhap News reported.

The South Korean second-biggest shipbuilder in the world said that orders for four more liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels came from its long-time client Angelicoussis Group of Greece.

Daewoo has won orders for 69 ships so far this year, 37 of which accounted for LNG vessels. The ME-GI pushed LNG ship helped fuel contract demand despite the sagging global maritime industry.

The total amount of 2014 contracts marked the highest value for Daewoo Shipbuilding on an annual basis, after the USD21.5 billion worth of orders it won in 2007, the company's data showed.
