Insurgent attacks kill 7 security personnel in Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least seven security personnel were killed in two separate insurgent attacks in southern Ghazni and Helmand provinces of Afghanistan, said officials on Monday.

The governor's spokesman for Ghazni province, Shafique Nang told media that at least three Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel were killed in an insurgent attack in the province.

The ALP men were killed after armed insurgents stormed their posts in the Gilan district, he added.

Moreover, an attack by Taliban rebels on a security check post in southern Helmand province triggered a gun battle leaving four Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and eight militants dead. Lt. Col. Mohammad Rasool Zazai, spokesman of the 215 Maiwand military corps told media that insurgents mounted attack on Kamil check post manned by ANA in the restive Sangin district.

He further said that three soldiers and as many rebels wounded in the fire fight, adding that the remaining insurgents fled the fighting scene and the area was under ANA control.

Taliban rebels have increased their attacks on security forces as NATO/ISAF forces formally ended their 13-year-old war in Afghanistan handing over the overall security control to Afghan forces.
