General Conference for Human Rights in the GCC Countries Kicks Off in Manama


(MENAFN- QNA) Manama hosted today the General Conference for Human Rights in the GCC countries, which is being organized by the International Gulf Organization for Human Rights (IGO) in cooperation with Bahraini Society "Ma'an" for Human Rights.

Addressing the event, Bahraini Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Mulla highlighted GCC members states' efforts to promote human rights which stem from their Islamic and Arab background.

"The issue of human rights topped the agenda of the Council of Representatives in Bahrain," he was quoted as saying by Bahrain News Agency.

The conference explores the goals of human rights under legislations, organizations, mechanisms and regional and international bodies, in addition to the reality of human rights in GCC countries far from any agendas or political, intellectual or ideological purposes, examining problems, reviewing achievements and identifying obstacles and barriers which present an obstacle to further progress in the field of human rights in the countries of the Council.

It also addresses the problematic of practicing human rights in contemporary world as it comes to contributing to building and promoting human rights in a holistic and integrated manner between the various actors in the world of human rights or working outside the framework of the state in what it offers of regulatory instruments and local, regional and international mechanisms.
