S. Korea's foreign tourists top 14m in 2014

(MENAFN) According to Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the number of foreign tourists to the country topped 14 million for the first time this year on a sharp rise in Chinese visitors, Yonhap News reported.

Over the past decade, South Korea has witnessed a gradual increase in inbound travelers encouraged by the popularity of the new Korean pop culture, known as hallyu.

The new record came after foreign travelers to the nation surpassed 12 million last year, increasing from 5 million visitors in 2011 and 10 million visitors in 2012, the KTO data showed.

Chinese were the No. 1 tourist group with 5.71 million, a 40.9 percent hike on-year. If the trend continues, the total number of visitors from China is expected to top 6 million by year-end.
