India eyes investing USD46.98b in power sector

(MENAFN) India's government said it is planning to make investments worth USD46.98 billion in power transmission and distribution business in a bid to offset fuel scarcity, Times of Oman reported.

Power Minister said he is confident that the results would start showing in the new year and a right foundation has been laid to power up the sector since the government took over last May.

The investment has already laid out an ambitious target of the new government to provide power supply around the clock to all households in the country by a deadline of March 2019.

"We are planning investments of USD46.98 billion in the transmission and distribution sector and have already started the Deen Dayal Grameen Jyoti Yojana and Integrated Power Development Scheme," the minister said.
