Gujarat's 'dancing' cop is suspended

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  A police sub-inspector of Surat in south Gujarat has been suspended after a video showing him shaking a leg with a professional dancer and showering currency notes on her went viral on the internet.

The action was taken after a preliminary inquiry by the Surat police confirmed that 55-year-old M C Solanki was enjoying himself at a cultural programme in September where he was invited but he was on duty wearing his uniform. One of the attendees reportedly filmed the policeman while dancing and posted the video online.

The clip was aired not only on social networking sites but also on television channels.

Sources in the office of the Gujarat's director-general of police told Khaleej Times that the Surat police commissioner gave the officer the stick for indiscipline as he had indulged in activities that were "against the police norm of behaviour" and the video gave a wrong message to the public.
