Deal signed to restore Aqaba railway coaches


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  The Aqaba Railway Corporation (ARC) and the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) on Sunday signed an agreement to rebuild and upgrade 35 carriages of the Corporation.

Transport minister Lina Shabib, who attended the signing ceremony, said her ministry was looking forward to forging closer cooperation with the KADDB for the development of the sector, noting that the bureau was a key backer of the national economy and praising its role in the country's scientific and technical advancement .

KADDB Director General, Brig. Gen. Omar Khalidi, said his facility was ready to offer various kinds of technical assistance to national institutions and meet technological and industrial requirements.

Under the deal, 35 coaches of the Aqaba railway, which had been damaged by accidents, will be restructured according to the manufacturing company's specifications and designs so that they become functional, said ARC Director General Hussein Kreishan.
