Arab League calls for intensifying efforts for solving Syria crisis

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby underlined the necessity of intensifying efforts aiming at solving the Syrian crisis politically in line with the Geneva 1 Declaration.

Al-Araby made this statement after meeting a delegation of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces headed by Hani Al-Bahra and prior to the delegation's meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

Al-Araby stressed that since the first day of the Syrian crisis, the Arab League has been keen on supporting the Syrian people and helping them meet their legitimate aspirations as well as stopping all acts of violence.

He pointed that the meeting reviewed the developments of the Syrian crisis and international initiatives aiming at holding a dialogue among all Syrian parties in order to solve the crisis politically. Al-Araby underscored the necessity of working hard to stop the daily sufferings of Syrian people, notably humanitarian situations that the displaced Syrians face inside and outside the country.

Meanwhile, Al-Bahra denied that there are official initiatives seeking to put an end to the Syrian crisis now.

"There are no official calls from any party aiming at holding a conference to discuss the political solution of the Syrian crisis," he said in a press conference after meeting with Al-Araby.

The delegation told the Arab League that the Syrian opposition members consult with each other and they are aware of responsibility toward holding this dialogue, he said.

He noted that the Syrian opposition will bear its responsibility and adopt one document for any peace talks on Syrian in the future, calling on the Arab League to play an effective role in this regard.
