7 inmates flee Maan juvenile centre, 3 recaptured

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  Seven young inmates held at the Maan Juvenile Detention Centre escaped on Friday night, but three of them were recaptured and brought back to the facility in southern Jordan, according to the Ministry of Social Development.

The ministry's Assistant Undersecretary, Abdullah Smeirat, told Petra that the escapees were all males, aged between 16 and 17, and were being held in connection with a range of cases.

"Security agencies and the ministry's specialized authorities were promptly informed and asked to track down the juveniles and return them to the centre," Smeirat said, adding that the recaptured inmates were being investigated.

Social Development Minister Reem Abu Hassan had formed an investigation committee to deal with the juveniles' cases in addition to other technical panels to evaluate the conditions at the centre.
