Oman's trade with Dubai reaches AED16bn in first 9 months of 2014


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The value of trade between Dubai and Oman reached AED16bn during the first nine months of 2014 according to Dubai Customs department. 

'The value of the trade between Dubai and Oman in 2013 reached AED19bn ie more than thrice as the value of the trade between Dubai and Oman in 2010 which amounted to AED6bn. In first nine months of 2014 the value of trade has already reached AED16bn' Ahmed Mahboob Musabih director of Dubai Customs said.

During his visit to the Commercial Office of the Sultanate of Oman in Dubai last week Musabih praised the development of trade cooperation with Oman. He said that Dubai Customs supports the economic and trade relationship between UAE and Oman. According to a press release posted on Dubai Customs website Musabih was received by Salem Muslim Samhan al Kathiry manager of the Commercial Office of the Sultanate of Oman in Dubai.

During the meeting both parties discussed how to support cooperation and coordination between Dubai Customs and the sultanate's Commercial Office in Dubai to develop the trade between the UAE and Oman by providing the best customs facilities for development of trade between the GCC states according to the objectives of the Customs Union for GCC states.

The necessary procedures for developing the traffic of commercial trucks across the borders of the two countries through Hatta border customs centre and monitoring the truck traffic using intelligent technologies were also discussed

'We are committed to providing the best customs facilities and services for trade with Oman in the light of the instructions of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to support the success of the Customs Union for GCC States and achieve its objectives' Musabih said.

Salem Muslim Samhan al Kathiry manager of Oman's Commercial Office in Dubai stated that the office appreciated the efforts of Dubai Customs for the development of trade with the sultanate. 'The mutual trade has developed steadily over the last decades thanks to the strong relationship and the geographical location of Oman and the Emirate of Dubai.'

He said that Dubai is one of the most important trade hubs that Omani companies are interested in using as a base for their trade and investment in several areas of the world. Kathiry also said in the near future Oman Business Council shall be established to coordinate between the Omani companies and various departments of the Emirate of Dubai.

'There are approximately 500 Omani companies operating in Dubai in various fields of trade and investment. Therefore the Commercial Office of the Sultanate of Oman in Dubai is committed to organising the Omani business community in Dubai to ensure the support of communications between Omani companies and all government and private departments and institutions in the Emirate for enhancing the economic relationships between Oman and UAE' Kathiry added.
