Qatar- Hamad International Airport Customs Foil Marijuana Smuggling


(MENAFN- QNA) Customs authorities at Hamad International Airport have managed to abort the smuggling of 17 kilogrammes of marijuana seized with a passenger coming from one of the Asian countries on board a direct flight to Doha.

Director of International Airport Customs Department Khalid Hamad Rashed Al-Kaabi said customs officers monitoring x-ray detectors suspected a bag and turned it to the inspection hall to find inside 3 large parcels of narcotic marijuana.

He said the smugglers and the seized haul were handed over to security bodies who will complete legal procedures and investigations prior to referring them to the attorney general's office.

Al-Kaabi explained that the Customs Authority used to seize big hauls of banned substances found hidden in secret and unexpected places such as hush, narcotic pills, opium, cocaine and others.

The General Authority of Customs report on seizures in 2013 has revealed that they made 1,500 seizures including 282 narcotic substances, 102 narcotic pills, 17 alcoholic substances, 80 tobacco, 162 seizures pertaining to intellectual property rights, 19 weapons and ammunition, in addition to 689 commercial fraud and other seizures related to pornographic materials, the smuggling of endangered speeches of animals and other banned materials.
