UAE- A show that helps kids break through barriers

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) BreakTHrough YOU show seeks to nurture and foster the most promising talents of the younger generation

Wayam Ranjeet Bhatia aka Sway has choreographed a dance routine that depicts inspiration. But Sway doesn’t believe in just ‘getting on stage and busting a few moves’. The very talented dancer will simultaneously present a comic monologue representing the personality of young girls along with the dance. Sway will showcase her dancing skills at BreakTHrough YOUTH.

A spin off of the city’s favorite interactive mixed arts show series ‘BreakTHrough YOU’ that aims to nurture and foster the most promising talents of the younger generation will be held today at the Courtyard Playhouse in Al Qouz.

When founder of BreakTHrough YOU and lead band member of Behold the Locus Fabian Martin spoke about Sway he excitedly said: “She’s a great dancer very talented. You have to see her.

And the surprising part is that she is only seven-years-old.” Fabian and his partner co-founder Elena Solina have been working tirelessly to nurture and provide a platform to unrecognised/upcoming talent in the UAE.

In an interview with Khaleej Times Fabian said: “We see the Youth edition as a spin off from BreakTHrough YOU. Within five months of starting BreakTHrough YOU we were nominated for ‘Favourite Cultural Event’ by one of the leading magazines in Dubai.

That was humbling and a very proud moment for us. We had various episodes of our show aired on local and international TV networks and artists from across the UAE both expatriates and UAE nationals have come to us to premiere their music videos and original art performances like music poetry dance art and other live acts at our shows.”

Elena chipped in: “After very successful six editions of BreakTHrough the organisers started getting several enquiries from very young people. We were approached by youth artists on a weekly basis to perform at our shows and we had to turn them down a lot of them as the sole aim of BreakTHrough YOU is to nurture and promote original art.

We decided to start YOUTH to accommodate these performers firmly believing that in due time they would pursue originality” said Fabian.

“But what shocked us was the kind of talent that was pouring through from these really young performers. We felt that giving them the space to showcase it was the perfect thing to do” added Elena.

Unlike BreakTHrough You the Youth edition is more family friendly and parents can bring their children along for the show. Sway along with eight other very talented youngsters will be performing at the show.

Meet the performers

Yasmina Alidodova an 11-year-old performer from Tajikistan was born and raised in Dubai. She is a singer model dancer and actor. Alidodova has attended many competitions like Kids Got Talent Kid Starz Kidzania etc.

“I’ve won first place at the Safeer Mall Singing Talent Contest I’ve won award for being a ‘musical star in UAE’ from ‘Big Idea’ as a singer. But I think a big moment for me was when I was invited to perform as international artist of Tajikistan in a national award ceremony “JILO” in 2014” said Yasmina.

She added: “Even though there are quite a few places that encourage child artists this is one of the best because it is done in a very professional manner.” Adding to which Fabian said: “There are venues for youngsters to perform mostly competitions and such. But we focus not only on performance but also on artist development as well. We want to help them BreakTHrough their own barriers first and then onto the mainstream.” The organisers said that the kids were uniquely talented and that they deserved space to showcase it.

HIDDEN TALENT ... Twelve-year-old multi-instrumentalist Loudrie Einz Margaret Beato Lolarga

“Take Loudrie for example. Loudrie Einz Margaret Beato Lolarga is a 12-year old multi-instrumentalist who plays drums piano guitar ukulele bass and violin. She’s been playing guitar since she was only seven years old; she started drums and piano from the age of 10 and just this year she started dabbling in ukulele bass and violin” said Fabian.

Also performing are Jake Roomstar (electronic music) Keith (singer) Fashionista Girls (dance) Lourdie (music) Klyver Swart (R&B) singer Ian Chris Toche and Nour Elshaeir (poet). The performers are aged between 7 and 14.

Singer Ian Toche said: “I started performing on stage when I was 5 years old. I always loved to perform on stage and in front of many people. I believe that by making other people smile happy and to be able to touch their hearts with my humble performance is already an achievement that any artist can be proud of.”

Visitors can look forward to Reframe Roomstar a unique electronic mother and son DJ duo comprising DJ Cindy and DJ Jake Roomstar the #youngestDJintheMiddleEast.

“Originally from the US and the UK Cindy started electronic deejaying inspired by her son Jake who learned the craft first and vowed to do as much as she could to pave the way for the youngster.

At age seven Roomstar entered the under-21 category of Pioneer UAE Digital DJ Championships making it to the semi-finals at his debut at NDulge Club at the Atlantis” said Fabian. Most artists on the show have a fan page on social networking websites and YouTube channels.
