Silver surfs 2.8% higher platinum and palladium join rally

Metals prices jumped on the Comex in New York on Friday although volume was lower following the Christmas Day holiday.

Silver for March delivery was one of the best performers and rallied 2.8% to US$16.147 an ounce.

Gold for February delivery climbed 1.9% to settle at US$1195.30 an ounce.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange PGM's were also firmer.

Platinum for April delivery added 2.3% to US$1219.90 an ounce which was the metals best day since December 1.

Palladium for March advanced 1.3% to US$818.60 an ounce.
