25 December 2014: The price of filling up at the petrol station has been falling steadily in recent weeks with the national average per litre now sitting at 116.9p. But according to RAC analysts this will continue to tumble and will almost certainly slip below the £1 per litre mark in early 2015.
Report spokesperson Simon Williams explained that this ongoing dip was due to the lower costs of oil with barrels of brent crude selling for under $60 (£38.18) on the international markets at the moment.
With this major reduction in the cost of petrol and diesel coming just before Christmas people fuelling up to travel long distances as they visit friends and family are going to be paying less at the pump than at any point in the past half decade according to official figures.
Back at the start of the year the average cost of a litre of petrol was close to 16p higher than it is at the moment which will no doubt please road users who have a lot of driving to do this festive season. But the promise of prices below £1 per litre for several months in 2015 will be an unprecedented windfall.
