UAE women win GCC Cup


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) In the final the UAE girls batted first and piled 122 runs at the cost of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs with top three batswoman contributing in twenties.

Muscat: The UAE women cricketers stayed unbeaten to lift the inaugural GCC Twenty20 women’s cricket tournament held last week in Muscat.

In the final the UAE girls batted first and piled 122 runs at the cost of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs with top three batswoman contributing in twenties. Esha Oza however was the most impressive with her rapid fire 23 coming off 15 balls and contained four hits to the ropes even as 19 wides and two no balls swelled the UAE total.



With UAE’s Heena Hotchandani conceding only five runs for three wickets in her four-over quota the Kuwaiti girls choked and were bowled out for 73 giving the UAE GCC Cup with a 49-run triumph. Aysha Naushadskhan also took three wickets but she was a bit expensive leaking 28 runs in four overs. The UAE bowlers were also guilty of conceding too many extras (30 runs 26 wides and four no balls). Heena Hotchandani was declared the player of the final. Subha Venkataraman and Samiya Salim also of the UAE were declared the best batswoman and best bowler of the tournament respectively.



Maryam Omar of Kuwait was adjudged the player of the tournament for her all-round performance in all the four matches that she played and her prize included OMR200 The UAE Kuwait Qatar and hosts Oman took part in the tournament and after the initial round robin league Kuwait and unbeaten UAE qualified for the final.
