Riyami defeats Naggar to clinch inaugural Oman Open TT title


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Sultan al Riyami edged past Mohammed El Naggar 4-2 in the final to lift the inaugural Oman Open Table Tennis Championship crown at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Monday.

Seventeen year old Kenneth Vaz defeated Said al Kharusi 4-1 to finish third in the competition which was organised by the Oman Table Tennis Committee (OTTC).

Yousuf al Ojaili CEO of Oman Gas Company presented the awards and cash prizes to the top three players in the presence of Abdullah Bamkhalef the OTTC chairman.

Riyami's victory fetched him a prize money of RO1000 while Naggar took home RO750 and Vaz received RO500.

A total of 86 players from Oman and residents of seven other countries took part in the competition.

Bamkhalef said 'This was our first attempt to hold an open event with attractive cash awards and we are satisfied with the response. We will continue to organise many more events for Omanis and also expatriate players in Oman and hope to increase the prize money with the help of private sector support.'

The top official said that the OTTC is planning to host a GCC or Arab level tournament during the Salalah Tourism Festival in 2015.
